Furniture Art Déco

Especially in the design of furniture and furnishings such as Art Déco lamps, sculptures, ceramics or mirrors, the style proved to be extremely influential in the following years and also had an inspiring effect on many young designers and artists in the context of new possibilities in interior design in the field of interior architecture. The general appreciation can probably also be attributed to the open, integrative approach of Art Déco, whose stylistic elements developed in interaction with Futurist and Cubist influences, borrowed from the clear formal language of the Bauhaus (Walter Gropius, Johannes Itten, Oskar Schlemmer, Paul Klee) or made some borrowings from the aesthetics of the Dutch De Stijl (Piet Mondrian). In this respect, Art Deco can be associated more with classical modernism at the beginning of the 20th century than with the art movement of Art Nouveau, from whose meandering formal language, such as its characteristic inclusion of vegetal natural forms, one turns away.
